NEW 5 out of 4 Xfactor Bikini and Tankini
9:32 PMIts been a while since I've written up a new pattern review, but this one is so awesome I couldn't wait to share, even though I'd already blogged for today! Please note this post contains affiliate links. If you enjoy my work on reviewing patterns, it would be appreciated if you use my affiliate links as it helps keep me blogging. Thanks. :)
So today I've got the 5 out of 4 X Factor Bikini and Tankini Pattern (affiliate link). This pattern will be on sale until Wednesday April 6th. Yes, I tested this pattern. No I am not going to be biased with my review. :) Yes I loved it, but I've got plans to show you how to fix it and make it even better!
So the X Factor Bikini and Tankini includes 2 bodice views (straight and ruched), as well as the usual 5 out of 4 nursing modification. And while it is being marketed as a swim top, it worked great for an exercise top too! For the top you can opt for a bikini, or tankini with straight, gathered or maternity bodice as well as options for side ruching or side ties. That is a lot of options.
But the real fun part is the X back design. It is super fancy looking, but really easy to assemble. AND, 5 out of 4 has done an amazing job giving you very precise measurements for getting the back and arm binding on perfectly. No quartering and then guessing and hoping it is right. It was actually a joy to bind this one and I HATE binding.
The version shared here is the finalized version of the pattern, I have sewn up the size small. I used swim fabric outer and lining and then have an inner hidden lining of compression fabric. The compression fabric really pulled everything up and in, so it looks like I have a bit of side boob. That is 100% the compression fabric and not the pattern itself. I could adjust the pattern, but good enough is good enough. Since I was testing I did a lot of work perfecting this fit. All of my adjustments to this specific version are length adjustments only. I will have a very detailed post on "Muslin Monday" on how to perfect the lengths on your pattern too. So be sure to come back and check that out.
With the skirt I used the "long length" version and did not take out any length. Normally I would, but in this case, I wanted to have a butt coverage swim top so I could use it to work out AND swim. I wish I had done the side ties instead since then I could drop the length for working out and bring the fit up when actually swimming.
But I couldn't be happier. I've worn this to work out at the Y and I felt so stylish and well covered. I LOVE the X back and can see myself hacking this into a summer dress too.
BIG FAT NOTE: I hate the way the backs are done with the larger cup sizes on this pattern (and really most of the 5 out of 4 and SUAT Patterns). I have a hack ready for you on Monday that is going to fix all my complaints about the back/full bust adjustment. My hack will be able to be used on any of the 5 out of 4 patterns that include a bra length line OR the SUAT Patterns that use the same method. You won't want to miss it. See you then. :)
