Real Life, Real Sewing, a Sew 20 Blog Tour
8:00 AMWhen I saw the details for this blog tour, I KNEW this was the one for me. Because I sew all of my eldest's wardrobe, my own clothes, clothes for my husband and my younger girls get TONS of mama made hand me downs, there isn't a day that goes by that doesn't include the "real" use of my projects.

And, to make blogging for this tour even easier, I've got a great list of questions! Yay. So, read through my answers while you browse through these very "REAL" uses of my sewing projects (including in the mud <gasp>).

It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I want something really challenging (like a placket) but mostly I sew projects that can be put together quickly.

Who wouldn't want an endless supply of fabric? ;) But in all seriousness, I wish that I actually bought fabric for specific projects, rather than trying to peruse my stash and find a pattern plus a fabric that can work together. But I LOVE stocking up on sales, so it is a catch 22.
3. What is your most used/worn sewing project? This either could be of all time or currently.

Honestly, my purse would be by far my most used project. I actually hate making purses. But when I do it, I try to do all the little things they need to look nice. The reality is though, I still haven't finished sewing the lining of my purse! I've been using this purse for over 3 years. Maybe it is finally time.
4. Do you have a project that you thought would be used/worn frequently but just did not end up working out?

My kids always surprise me at what things they're going to like and which ones they will hate. And worse, when 1 kid loves a style, the others might hate it, so hand me downs can be complicated. So for now, the clothes not getting any love are the woven skinny pants my eldest loved so much. My middle daughter will only wear leggings. And they have to be skin tight. Fingers crossed my youngest might like this style so they get used again.
5. What is your favorite tip or quote that applies to sewing for real life?
"Wear what you love, and love what you wear." I won't let someone else tell me (or my kids) what styles we're supposed to like. As long as all necessary body parts are covered, we're a no holds barred family. Which means when my middle child wears her "day clothes" for pajamas, I don't even bat an eye.

I like your attitude towards your handmade clothing and how you dress or don't dress your kids. I get to pick clothes for church, but all else is free reign.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had an endless supply of fabric too! great read!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on "clothes are made to be worn". I also give my kids as much freedom as I can on what they wear; I only base restrictions on weather appropriateness or safety concerns. Getting dressed should be fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the Home Depot shots! I agree that clothes are meant to be worn. I try to be mindful of wearability when selecting what I'll make and purchase.
