Desert Island Sew: Sew 20 Tour

This month we were promted with: Pretend that you will be spending a few weeks alone on a desert island. You will only be allowed ONE sewing pattern but no limits on project supplies. What pattern would you take?
This was a tough one. I normally sew for myself, my kids and sometimes my husband. How do I even pick?
And then it struck me. This would be a once in a million chance. A chance to stay 100% on task with no interruptions and no worries about supplies, or responsibilities. It would finally be time to finish...
a bag.
Yes, I said it, I would print out a bag pattern and finally finish it. I wouldn't make it wait several months to finish cutting it out and putting on the interfacing. I wouldn't put it in a gallon sized zip lock back and tuck it into the back of my sewing table. I would start a bag and finish it, without getting distracted by another pattern.
I am a big fan of Swoon Patterns. If you've never browsed the photos in their facebook group, you are missing out! There is so much inspiration there.
But many bags require specialty hardware, interfacings, and TONS of tiny little pieces. Definitely not my usual types of sews. Bags are not fast or easy. Bags are NOT instant gratification. I'm not going to sit down one evening and boom, done with a bag.
The bag that I finished this week is the FREE Ethel Pattern from Swoon. It doesn't require specialty hardware, but it does need foam interfacing. But that bag had been sitting for at least 7 months now. I used this tour to get me motivated to get the bag finished. I even finished stitching up the turning space in the lining. Sadly I put the handles on wrong (I did front to back, they're supposed to be 1 on front and 1 on back). Whoops. I'm just so glad that I finished the bag, I am NOT going to fix it!
But, assuming, time, materials and focus was no problem, I'd definitely try something a bit more detailed. Maybe something like the Charlotte City Tote. With the vinyl overlays it would definitely be a nice challenge and opportunity to focus on something that would really need precision to make an amazing final project.
I'll save my easy sews for my regular sewing time. ;)

A project that you keep putting off is a great choice for your desert island sew. I definitely have things I keep pushing back because they are going to be more time intensive than I want to deal with.
