Sewing For Adults
Stylish Fabric Week 1
12:20 PM
Are you ready for some Fall sewing? I am so excited to have put together the Sew Ready For Fall blog tour. It promises to be a fun one! As the hostess I have both the job of introducing the day's bloggers as well as sewing up something awesome for the tour! And I definitely have something awesome. I'm so awesome, you'll get to hear from me twice. :D
Arranging the tour meant a LOT of background work, so I knew I needed a good, quick sew. And Seamwork Paxson definitely fit the bill. The Paxson is a simple, unisex raglan sweater. According to Seamwork, it can be finished in an hour, and I found that to be pretty accurate.
I am actually a long time Seamwork subscriber and I love that I get 2 patterns for just $6 each month. They aren't usually fancy, but it definitely fulfills my itch for new patterns each month. And it is definitely a great way to build up your stash
I am very lucky, in that my husband and I have similar "chest/bust" measurements, so when something fits him, I can be sure it will fit me too. So while I have my husband here modeling for me, you better believe I'll be sneaking this beauty out of his closet on cool fall days.
The Paxson is drafted with a nice high neckline that allows the collar of a button down shirt to peak through, or you can just be happy it is keeping your neck nice and warm. It is the perfect sweater for my husband to layer over his work shirts and I hope I can find a nice argyle print so I can make him a few fancier looking sweaters. This fabric from Stylish Fabric looks like it could be a good choice.
I picked a simple black on black french terry and it is silky and so soft. Even though the description says 30% stretch, I found that with the ease built into this pattern, I didn't need the full 50% stretch.
The Paxson pattern says I would need 2 1/4 yards of fabric, but I found with a different pattern layout, I was able to get a size medium out of 1 3/4 yards of fabric. And there was quite a bit left over, so if you're sewing the smaller sizes, feel comfortable getting just 2 yards and be prepared to have extra.
As for the wearer's opinions. My husband said this sweater fits just like his high end merino wool sweaters. So for once, he loves it! Now if I can find some of that beautiful merino wool he loves so much and I can make him a few in different colors. I think even he was surprised at how nice it turned out.
Impressed and thinking you want your own copy? You're in luck. One lucky reader will get to pick a copy of either the Paxson or Wembley (come back next week to see my version of the Wembley). And of course, that's not all you can win. So be sure to head over to the Stylish Fabric blog and see the full range of possible prizes. Of course, be sure to check out the other bloggers too. And don't forget to leave a comment below, because that is one of the options to register in the giveaway!
And of course don't miss any of the stops on the Sew Ready For Fall tour.

ReplyDeleteI'm excited for this blog tour. Perfect motivation to begin sewing for fall!
ReplyDeleteWould this pattern work for a broad built guy?
ReplyDeleteThe pattern goes up to a 2x. It is meant to be semi fitted over a button up shirt. 2x is a 50-52" chest and 44-46" waist. I really like that the pattern includes finished measurements to give you an idea as to how it will fit before you start cutting your fabric.
DeleteI love that this pattern works for men and women. I love the one you made!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I am sewing with the french terry from Stylish Fabrics as well and it is lovely fabric.
ReplyDeleteI love your Paxon. I'm trying to remember if I got that as one of my seamwork patterns. I don't think I did. This looks great!
