Patterns for Pirates Cocoon Cardigan
12:46 PMI completely didn't plan today's blog post, but once I saw the pictures, I knew my readers would want to see all of them.
Today's pattern is the Patterns for Pirates Cocoon Cardigan. I purchased this pattern during their cardigan week and have sewn up 3 so far. The fabric is the pink/ivory stripe from Simply By Ti. Simply by Ti also carries several other color ways of this stripe so you could have an entire collection of striped cocoon cardigans for every occasion!
I'm sure you already know my love of the bust/shoulder fit of Patterns for Pirates Patterns. Judy drafts for a larger shoulder to bust size, which means I don't have to do an FBA.
I removed 1" from the waist area (there is no "shorten/lengthen line"). That did require a little redrawing of the curved front, but it wasn't too serious. Thanks to asking in the P4P Facebook Group, I knew the neck binding was a 1:1 ratio, so all I had to do was measure the neck line to figure out the new binding lengths.
This pattern is a SUPER quick sew as most dolmans are. Unless of course you decide to sew it in a striped rayon spandex and you want to match up all the stripes. Then it will take you about 2 hours to finish. But clearly well worth the time. But look at the stripe matching, LIKE A BOSS!
This cardigan is great for lounge wear (as shown here) but looks equally nice over casual dresses or jeans and t-shirts. I love that the pattern offers both a regular and long /wide neckbinding and sleeve cuffs. There is a short sleeve option, but my arms are always cold, and layers are strictly for keeping me warm, so I won't likely ever make that option.
This rayon spandex is a nice lightweight which will make it perfect for layering during our very cool evenings here in Wyoming. But it is also substantial enough to add a layer of warmth over my long sleeved cotton/lycra t-shirts now. It is definitely a win/win!
