So much goes on behind the scenes when it comes to pattern testing. Many times there’s multiple versions of the pattern as we work through completion. I often end up having to sew and resew the same pattern 3-4 times as I’m helping a designer work through the little quirks in the pattern. The Winter Wear Designs Phresh Jeggings is no exception.

Now, having 3 or more versions as we go through testing is actually a GREAT thing. Why? Because it means the pattern is actually getting revisions. It means the designer is taking into account the difficulties in the instructions or the misfitting pattern pieces and making changes.

You can see the progression here. Round 1, meh… These just don’t say “jeggings”. These were plenty comfy, but just not the right touch.

Round 2 was so bad I didn’t even take photos. It was a combination of me picking the wrong fabric, and the adjustments needing to be made in the pattern.

But oh, round 3. DD2 LOVED these pants. Loves them so much they’re the first thing she grabs from her laundry basket each week.

Pros:
-Faux Pocket. This is a fabulous place to put a piece of scrap fabric you’ve been hoarding. The piece is tiny so it would fit on the sized pieces I would normally throw away.
-Faux Fly. Nothing says “real pants” like a fly.
-Top Stitching. It seems so tedious as you’re going along top stitching every single seam. But it is the little details that make the difference.
-Riding pants cut out. This part is so adorable and takes these from “jeggings” to WOW.

Cons:
- I still can’t get my oldest to wear them. Seriously they’re awesome, but she just won’t wear them. She also shuns leggings though. So if your kid hates leggings, these are not the pants for you. :(

Overall, a good pattern with well drafted pattern pieces. Definitely not a fast sew, but if you want something that looks professional, you’ve got to work on it. Start to finish a pair takes me about 2 hours. BUT, keep in mind I sew fast and I usually skip out the finicky parts, like back pockets.
