On to the good stuff! I choose the Gracious Threads Rainbow Tee for my "new look". The Rainbow Tee is a knit tee for sizes 2-12. It is a fitted tee with a great color block option.
With the theme, "new look" I could have taken this anywhere. And sometimes having too many choices is a very bad thing! But if you've been following along with my usual work, you'll know that I like to keep things simple. And with a looming deadline, I opted for simple.
So what is my "new look"? I took the Rainbow Tee and I made it with a woven front and knit back. This is a great way to feature those awesome woven prints you love with the comfort of a knit tee!
So how'd I do it? Simple. I started out thinking if this worked out I'd use it for my soon to be 5 year old. She fit the size 5 perfectly and it would have been awesome. I cut a woven front and a knit back. I used 3/8" elastic on the neck and sleeve and turned under and top stitched. I did a tiny bit of gathering to play with the look a bit. Unfortunately, it didn't work! What? Yeah, fitted tee in woven fabric equals no good in the regular size. BUT, all was not lost (and this is why I never sew intentionally for my youngest). You see the size 5 fit my 3 year old perfectly. WIN!
So I used up a super cute Joann's Red Tag Clearance fabric with a striped knit from Funkalicious Fabrics.
This new look was actually a win for my "I only wear dresses" daughter. She calls it her shirt dress. I don't care what she calls it as long as she wears it! Styled with a pair of white leggings and we're ready to go!
