Peeking into a seamstresses closet

Today's blog post may be a bit confusing. The last few days I've been wearing pretty dresses and here I am about to show you what is in my laundry basket from last week and there are no pretty dresses. Let me explain.

I have decided that 2017 is going to be my #YOLO year. No more waiting for the right occasion to wear my favorite things. I'm going to wear them now.

Previously, I didn't wear many dresses. Why? Kids. Between breastfeeding and fear of wardrobe malfunctions, I usually wore whatever was easy. Definitely pants and a shirt that was breastfeeding friendly. Now I confess, that was actually a mistake. I could have made "pretty" breastfeeding friendly dresses. I COULD have worn shorts under my dresses to battle off the toddler created wardrobe malfunctions, but I didn't. But I can't go back in time. I can go forward and be awesome now though, so let's do this.

Let me point out, this basket is technically from LAST year. SO I hadn't achieved yolo yet. But there's still some really good stuff in here. Let's take a look. :)

This is my actual basket. Once a week my daughter sorts out the laundry according to who it belongs to and we each get a basket. Notice, she does not fold. That's ok, its not her job. I have already removed all RTW underwear and socks. No sense in sharing those.

Speaking of underwear, let's start there. In my basket I had:
1 pair of SUAT Scrundies. Scrundies are my favorite, but a lot of binge eating means I don't fit into my full stash of Scrundies in size small. I have several more pairs than these, but they must already be in the dirty laundry for next week.
6 pairs of Jocole Bottoms. My favorite thing about the Jocole Bottoms is that they only need 2 way stretch. That makes them perfect for upcycling those less stretchy t-shirts, like this "protect your nuts" pair. ;)

Pajamas are next.
I don't usually "intentionally" make pajamas. Pajamas are either muslins that are good enough to wear, just not in public, or clothes that some how became too inappropriate for wearing out of the house.

2 pairs of Duck Butt Designs Plain Pants (1 slim fit, 1 loose fit)
1 Jocole shoreline tank made into a sleep bra

1 pair of Jocole Wide Leg Pants as shorts from Sly Fox Fabrics Double Brushed Poly. Completely decadent.
1 pair of Jocole Yoga Pants

1 pair of Sis Boom Judy's Fancy Pants. You'll notice the fancy pants don't wrinkle. They're made from an old microfiber sheet set we had. I hated the sheets because they didn't breathe, so you got sweaty. But the pants are awesome.
1 pair of 5 out of 4 Pajama pants (with pockets!)

2 RTW long sleeve t's from Target (bottom left). These have been with me forever. They're stained, stretched out and otherwise completely UN-street worthy. If I ever had to replace them, I'd probably use Patterns for Pirates Henleys with the crew neckline.
1 RTW Camisole. I buy these because they're cheap, but I could easily make them from the Jocole Shoreline Tank
1 Greenstyle Centerfield Raglan. This tee would still be in my rotation if not for having white latex pant on it. (top right)
1 VERY mashed up and hacked Patterns for Pirates Layer Me Up (cross over) with Boundless skirt.

1 Gracious Threads Maple Skirt

On to Pants. You'll notice there are 3 pairs of RTW leggings in this pile. Up until last week, I have mostly work solid RTW leggings. It seemed silly to make leggings when I could buy them cheaper. But now that I've made a pair of 5 out of 4 Ninjas, I'll never go back.

Also in the pants pile (right to left),
1 pair of EYMM Get Moving Leggings
1 pair of Winter Wear Designs Aviators
1 pair of Love Notions Sabrina Slims (a replacement for the pair I ripped)

2 Patterns for Pirates Slim Fit Raglans. The one on the left is made from the stretch french terry from Raspberry Creek Fabrics and the right is a space dyed double brushed poly (also from RCF)

2- Love Notions La Bella Donna. 1 in Sweater knit from Sly Fox Fabrics. The other in a crushed panne (for what it is worth, I wouldn't make this shirt again. The crushed panne likes to "crawl" on your body and you may end up with wardrobe malfunctions. Don't say I didn't warn you.) These shirts are actually both very black, but you couldn't see the knit texture if I darkened the photos.

2 Patterns for Pirates Pumpkin Spice Dolmans (left)
1 EYMM Piko Top. This style of top looks awful on me. But I love the color so much I wear it anyway.
1 Sew By Pattern Pieces Fun Tee (left)
1 Patterns for Pirates Henley (right)

1 Sis Boom Carolina Mae. This dress never went into the laundry basket, but I still wore it last week. :) It is a fabulous poly/cotton blend that is thicker and never wrinkles. It is the PERFECT fabric for a dress. I wore it with the Wrap Cardigan below.

Layers are actually my 3 favorite pieces from all of this.

1 Papercut Patterns Coppelia Wrap Front Cardigan
1 RTW Raglan Zip Up Hoodie (I'll be copying this one later this month)

1 New Horizons Designs Harbor Hoodie. Hands down my favorite piece out of anything I have. I wear it as a robe for an extra layer inside our house and sometimes wear it out of the house as a cardigan. Too much? Maybe, but I love it so much I don't even care.

If I am wearing a top today (but blogged about it a while back) can I use the previous blog post to link my picture? Just trying to figure that out. Thanks!

  8. Very interesting! Some of your clothing doesn't look warm enough for your climate but I guess if you wear lots of layers, it might work.

    1. Weather in Wyoming can vary by about 70 degrees in any given week. Some days are a very comfy 40-50 degrees during the day. Others can be WAY into the negatives (-40 or even colder). Christmas week was pretty mild. This coming Monday is forecast to be 51. So far tonight it is -12 and still dropping. You never know what you're going to get. :) I am prepared with other clothes. I just didn't need them that week.
