Watcha Wearin' January- Where are you going?
8:00 AMIf you remember last week on my Laundry Basket post, you'll know that I'm aim for #YOLO this year.
In case you live under a rock, that means "You Only Live Once." That means, I'm wearing my pretty clothes even when I have no where to go. But that may not be the case for you, and even I am not above being practical in our arctic type whether.
Do you remember the "Wear to Where" series hosted by Katy McKinley. Its a fun series where you get a
location prompt and you think of how you'd wear your outfits. I'm going to play a mini version with outfits and locations I need to go to this week.
The Library. There is something about going to the library that makes me think dresses and tights. Too many stereotypes? At least I'm not wearing fake glasses. ;) A Greenstyle Laurel in a comfy cotton knit would be a great option here. Comfy, cute and perfect for knit tights and boots (everything looks better with boots, right?). And if I'm worried about the cold, I could wear any number of of my cardigans. Sounds like the perfect outfit.
Kid's Art Class Drop Off. The only thing of note for this trip is that I will have to walk at least 1/2 a block to get from the parking spots to the art class. That could be awful if it is cold and/or windy, so I'd definitely want something nice and warm. A pair of denim Love Notions Sabrina Slims plus my Raspberry Creek Fabrics french terry Patterns for Pirates Slim Fit Raglan should be just enough to combine style and warmth. My SFR even has a nice kangaroo pocket for keeping my hands warm. If the weather is decent, I could walk the 1/2 block to the class without a coat (some days it is 40-50 degrees here in winter). And if not, I can layer on a warm coat.
Kid's Dance Class Drop Off. For dance class, I actually have to wait while the kids attend class. This wouldn't be so bad except the chairs are just regular folding chairs. It seems like a good opportunity for secret pajamas, like my Love Notions Willow Wrap Dress and either cable knit leggings, tights or regular leggings. No one has to know I'm super comfy.
My eldest's Gymnastics Meet. This event starts at 11 and will be over around 3:30 or 4 o'clock. Also, we have to drive higher up into the mountains. That means it will probably be even colder than usual. It is also a lot of sitting, in bleachers and it may actually be too hot inside with all the people <meep> so comfort and layers are key. But I don't want to sacrifice style. What to wear. I'm thinking my leopard print Love Notions Sabrina Slims and my sweater knit (from Sly Fox) La Bella Donna. Fashionable and no one needs to know I put a yoga waistband on them. Plus my Sabrina Slims are fleece lined, so I'll be warm without being too hot.
Dinner out with my family? (fat chance, our schedule is so full this week, but you can never be too prepared ;) ). This is an easy one to choose. A Sis Boom Carolina Mae and my Paper Cut Coppelia. If I was feeling really serious about this out fit, I'd grab The Wolf and the Tree Gazelle Tights.
A movie in with my husband. The perfect outfit for this would of course be a tunic and some super touchable leggings. Sly Fox Fabrics has the perfect fabrics for this one. A Love Notions La Bella Donna Tunic and 5 out of 4 Ninja Leggings, both in their decadent double brushed poly. Comfy, cozy and perfect for a night in. And if it gets too chilly, definitely add in my New Horizons Harbor Hoodie. For the record though, when I can't be bothered to pick an outfit, this is definitely my go to.
A rough day of homeschooling with the kids. This would be one of those days where I'm practically begging them to get their school work done. Yeah, we have those days too. That kind of day needs the perfect outfit. Something that makes me feel awesome so that when I go into melt down mode, I can at least look good doing it. This makes me think of my Patterns For Pirates Slim Fit Raglan in Space Dyed Double Brushed Poly from Raspberry Creek Fabrics and a pair of simple cotton leggings. Plus my fuzzy warm boots if we end up going out. Comfy, cute and at least I can rub the fabric to make myself feel better.
A trip to the museum. We have a great little local museum and its good for a day out when being cooped up in the house is too much. A skirt with a simple pair of flats would be perfect. Or boots when it is just too cold for ballerina flats. My favorite skirt is the Little Lizard King Petal Perfect Skirt. But you can't buy it anymore. A good substitute is the Itch to Stitch Lindy Petal Skirt. And to pair with it, either the Closet Case Nettie Body Suit and a warm cardigan like the Mouse House Creations Julia Cardigan, Peekaboo Cambridge Cardigan or even the Swoon Cardigan.
