Have you been following along with the 40 Garments in 40 Days Series? I'd hate for you to miss anything, so click through if you've missed any of the series so far:
40 Garments in 40 Days Week 1 Day 1
40 Garments in 40 Days Week 1 Day 2
40 Garments in 40 Days Week 2

This is one of my favorite parts of the whole sewing a wardrobe process. Making the sudokus!

I know, sudokus aren't actually a part of the sewing, but once you put together a viable sudoku, you have 10 completely unique outfits. So how do you build a sudoku? It helps to start with a base chart.

All you have to do now is fill it in!

So for simplicity so far, we have 3 dresses, 4 pairs of shoes and 11 other garments. We only need 9 garments for our Sudoku, so the remaining 2 will get added in as we add more items. Please note that so far we only have 1 layer. We'll be adding more as we go.

For starters, here's our 3 dresses. Because we don't really wear "accessories" it would be hard for us to build a full sudoku for these. But I'll be sure to build a nice big chart for all the dresses in the series.
Next of course we have shoes. Every girl should have at least 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of "dress" shoes, a casual shoe and a sneaker. If I had my way, the sandals and dress shoes would be black. But of course when you're seven you pick what you like. That's cool though. I think silver is a great color to use for spring and summer.

Finally the piece de resistance the full 16 square sudoku. You'll notice there are 3 blank spaces. Those should have been layering pieces. I do have layering pieces to put in there, but they haven't been shared yet. I'll be sure to update this as we get more pieces included. And of course I didn't include the sandals in here. As much as I like her sandals, my fingers are freezing as I type this. I just can't justify the full use of sandals just yet.

All pieces match going across, up/down and 2 diagonals for 10 full outfits. I used her pink imitation converse twice. I just LOVE these shoes. The next time my daughter says, "I don't have anything to wear" I can break out my handy chart. WOOT!

Have you been using sudoku's to build your wardrobes? It was really fun to work on these. I used pic monkey and just cropped my blog photos so they would fit into the squares. Next week we'll have 7 more garments to share on Tuesday. Combined with the 2 that weren't included this week, I should be able to build out at least 1 more, if not 2 more completely different sudokus. Those will be available for you on Wednesday. At this rate, my kid will be able to go the ENTIRE spring and not wear the same outfit twice. #FTW!

  1. that is fun! I haven't done this for the kids (there are four... that's too many Sudoku's for my brain) but I do something similar for me.

    1. I've previously had this bad habit of making individual outfits and then each piece can only go with one other piece and then my daughter would mismatch everything and make me crazy. This keeps her well coordinated since she doesn't care as much about matching. :)
