I want to apologize in advance here for the entire rest of the summer. I am a little obsessed with scoop backs. I have a great looking back and I'm not afraid to show it. So, #sorrynotsorry

On to today's review. Today I'm talking about the Made For Mermaids Mama Ella.

Let's start with the obvious. Why the Mama Ella rather than the Patterns for Pirates Essentials Tank? They are similar (not the same), and I wouldn't fault someone for owning both or only owning one. In my case, the deciding factor was the front ties on the t-shirt. I really wanted to try this style and didn't want to hack the ties. I'll probably eventually buy the P4P Essentials though, since I love the maxi length and I have no patience for figuring out the racerback.

Back to the Ella. I did my usual adjustments on the Ella. I shortened above the bodice and at the waist. I used a size blue (up to 37" chest) blended to the purple (for my 38" hips). According to the sizing, I SHOULD have done an FBA, but because I knew I would be using my favorite Rayon Spandex from Simply By Ti, I opted to not DO the FBA.

The leopard print is my "wearable muslin". And wear it I will. I did find that the scoop back was a little too scooped and would have shown my bra band. So I ended up bringing it up on my second version. I feel like the inch that I brought the back up really helped frame my shoulder blades. And now I can be 100% sure that my bra band won't show (unless I do something intentional).

I can't believe I've never worn this style. The tie is super flattering and helps draw attention down to my waist. I thought it might make me look wider, but instead I look thinner.

I do want to point out 1 think between the two sets of photos. On the leopard, I wore the capris as capri length. I had always heard that petites should not wear true capri length because we would look too short and chop off our legs.

With the blue floral, I scrunched the hem up to just below my knee (where I normally wear them). I'm going to have to say that all those "experts" were wrong. Capri length is awesome. Below my knee makes my calves pop out (they are huge for my leg, but that's not the point) and chops my leg in a funny way. True capri's all the way!
